Meet Valerie D. Stephens , MD

Title: Doctor of Medicine

Valerie D. Stephens is a native of South Dakota. At an early age, her family moved to South West Minnesota where she completed her primary education. She received her BA in Geography at Mankato State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. After 8 years as a cartographer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she returned to school and obtained her premedical course work primarily at the University of Minnesota. She then returned to South Dakota where she earned her medical degree in 1997.

Dr. Stephens completed her internal medicine internship and residency at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and her GI fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

During her fellowship, she received specialized training in endoscopic ultrasound, (EUS) at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to joining Rapid City Medical Center, Dr. Stephens practiced gastroenterology in a private setting in Everett, Washington. She was the primary EUS provider for the area and provided services in general gastroenterology. Her main area of interest is GI oncology.

Dr. Stephens is certified as a Diplomat in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Outside of medicine, her interests include her pets, hiking, biking, art, and music.
